November 2006
Donor of the Month

The Public Education Foundation has selected Niketown as November’s Donor of the Month for their outstanding support of our public schools and student fitness.

On November 4, 2006, Niketown sponsored the second annual Niketown 5K Run/Walk.  Their mission:  To get kids moving and give them the means to do it.  The Niketown 5K was dedicated to youth physical fitness:  100% of the entry fees were donated to the Clark County schools’ physical education, play and athletic programs of the registrants’ choice.  With more than 3,500 runners, approximately $50,000 was raised during the family-friendly Run/Walk.  The funds will be managed and distributed to the schools by The Public Education Foundation.

Leading up to the 5K, Niketown staff visited schools to help train the students and to encourage physical fitness.  Schools throughout Clark County worked tenaciously to register participants and to win a weekly Jamba Juice card for the most registrations during the weeks leading up to the race.  C.P. Squires Elementary School won the grand prize award for the most registrants.  All registrants received a commemorative Niketown 5K tee shirt and participants ages 18 and under received a finisher medal and gift bag.

Twenty-five year old Nick Meis of Las Vegas was the first place finisher with a time of 15:57.  Second place went to Martin Conrad, 25, with 16:34, and third place, with a time of 18:04, was Tony Whitney, 39.  For a complete list of all finishers and age group results, go to http://www.niketown5k.com/lasvegas/

The Public Education Foundation is deeply appreciative of Niketown’s commitment to our public school children.
